MIDDLE SCHOOL

Bordeaux International School has created a unique bilingual programme of study for students aged 10 – 11(*) which is accessible to both French and English students, offering a curriculum delivered half in English and half in French, together with a transition between Primary and Secondary.

Covering the essential aspects of both the English and French National Curricula, pupils work in an international dimension appreciating the unique possibility of working in two languages with the additional advantage of initiation into a third language - Spanish.

This is achieved with a high degree of personal interaction between teacher and pupil, and the size of the teaching group is limited to ten students. Within this group students are encouraged to develop independence and autonomy, but also the ability to work as a member of a group in preparing class (and school) presentations.

For some students, BIS is a new experience in a new country with new surroundings and pupils are assigned a tutor who monitors their progress and achievement, co-ordinates their social integration and pastoral care, and liases closely with parents.

(*) When it is felt academically and socially beneficial, the Middle school programme is also available to younger students.
