From the age of 3 : (depending on availability of places; children must be toilet trained and able to participate in group activities): Four half days or four full days a week – half in French and half in English with co-ordinated bilingual activities. Each term follows a number of themes related to the interests of the children and the school annual project. Hours of learning take place from 09.00 to 11.45 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The afternoon includes a calm period the duration of which depends upon the needs of the children (listening to gentle music, listening to or reading stories, whilst they rest upon small mattresses). This is followed by a more active period with manual activities accomplished autonomously or with guidance.
From the age of 4 : Enrolment for four full days depending on availability of places and the overall non-disruptive integration with the existing group. Four days per week where the children learn the language, learn to "live together", as well as how to act and express themselves through physical and artistic activities. An introduction to Spanish takes place each week using songs and games.
From the age of 5 : Four full days with lunch included as a social activity and on an alternating bilingual basis. Children begin their pre-reading, writing and number activities. Spanish is introduced at the age of 4 by songs and games. The children participate in the daily school council. Hours are 09.00 to 15.55 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
The school works with a local authority catering firm which provides well-balanced meals to many schools. Meals are taken in the school cafeteria where the children learn to share a meal in a calm manner. This forms part of the indispensable educational aspect of learning to share meal-times with children of other classes, and is linguistically enriching as the meals are conducted and supervised by teachers on a bilingual basis, alternatively one day in French and another day in English. It should also be noted that an additional teacher takes specific care of the 3 and 4 year olds during the whole of the lunch period.
Child Minding Service
The Child-Minding Service (garderie) is a paid service which is available every day, except Wednesday, from 08.30 to 08.45 and from 16.15 to 17.15.
