Student Support
Support in Early Learning & Primary...
In the classroom, we work in small classes so that we can support each pupil as closely as possible to his or her needs. This means individualised follow-up for each pupil and differentiated tasks.
Language support...
At BIS, we understand that language differences can be a problem for many pupils. That's why we're committed to making the academic journey as seamless as possible, whatever the language of origin. We welcome pupils who do not speak English, French or either language at the time of enrolment. Our aim is to ensure that language proficiency is not an obstacle to their education.
For pupils starting out in French or English 2nd language, learning a third language (Spanish) is replaced by additional support in the second language.
In addition, we organise two very small first-language support groups every Wednesday morning: one in French 1st language, the other in English 1st language.
Collaboration with specialists...
In addition, we can ask parents to have an external assessment carried out: in speech therapy, psychomotricity, ophthalmology, child psychiatry, etc. If the child is being monitored, we communicate with the specialist and endeavor to implement his or her recommendations.
For certain larger needs, we can call on an external English-speaking speech therapist with whom we collaborate, to provide additional expertise, either externally or within the school. Where possible, this consultant can also come to the school for follow-up sessions. We also collaborate with a bilingual teaching assistant who can accompany pupils (French or English-speaking) individually in class. These services are at the parents' expense.
Support in Secondary...
Supporting Every Student's Journey...
At BIS, we prioritise the success and wellbeing of every student through our dedicated Learning Support. Our experienced Special Needs Coordinator collaborates closely with teachers, students and parents to identify and address diverse learning needs, ensuring that students with additional needs receive the personalised assistance they require. Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique strengths and challenges of each student are designed to provide the necessary support for academic and social success.
Collaboration with Specialists...
Our Learning Support includes collaboration with a Speech Therapist who offers targeted interventions on an individual basis as required. This ensures that students with language and communication needs receive the focused attention required for their development. For more specialised needs, we may involve external consultants to provide additional expertise. This collaborative effort strengthens our support network, ensuring we can address unique challenges comprehensively.
Effective Strategies in the Classroom
We believe in practical solutions. Our Special Needs Coordinator collaborates with teachers to implement effective strategies within the classroom setting. This approach creates an inclusive environment that empowers all students, accommodating diverse learning styles. Regular training helps our teachers to remain up-to-date with best practices ensuring they can adapt to the diverse needs of our student body.
We maintain small class sizes with a maximum of 16 students per class. This intentional approach allows our teachers to build strong connections with each student, fostering a more personalised and attentive learning environment.
At BIS, we are committed to creating a supportive community where every student can succeed.
Language support...
At BIS, we understand that language differences can be a concern for many students. That is why we are committed to making the academic journey as seamless as possible regardless of language background. We welcome students who may not speak English, French, or either language upon enrolment. Our goal is to ensure that language proficiency is not a barrier to education.
For students who are not proficient in either French or English upon enrolment, a third language is often discouraged and instead, additional support in either language can be provided. We also offer both Second Language and Additional Language programmes at IGCSE level to cater to diverse needs.
Your education matters to us, no matter which language you speak. We're here to support you on your academic journey.
