Upper School

I would describe my experience at BIS as something that very distinctly shaped the person that I am, and am growing into. Since I studied there for so long, I got to really feel like there was a community growing around me and that I was growing around that community, which isn't something I had experienced on that scale before. - Kyle Leong (Singapore), A Level Class of 2019

Life in the Secondary Section...

Our Upper School inspires a passion for learning and equips students with the tools they need to navigate an ever-changing world.

We offer a stimulating and challenging international programme, centered around the respected Cambridge International Education (CIE) curriculum. Students are nurtured to become confident, responsible and reflective lifelong learners within a culturally diverse, supportive, and bilingual setting.

Our curriculum ensures a seamless progression from the CIE Lower Secondary programme followed by our Middle School through to International General Certificates of Secondary Education (IGCSE) at 16 years and International Advanced Level Examinations at 18 years.

At the heart of our educational philosophy is a student-centered teaching approach that provides challenge, guidance and support, tailored to the needs of each individual. Class sizes are deliberately kept small, with a maximum of 16 students per teacher at IGCSE and small tutorial groups of no more than 12 students  at International A Level.

International GCSE's (14-16 Years Old)...

The Cambridge IGCSE is a two-year course where students typically take between 7-9 subjects, culminating in official external examinations.Cambridge International Education awards grades (A* – G) in each subject. While English is the primary language of instruction, we actively encourage students to continue their language development. French is mandatory for students at all levels and Sport lessons are conducted entirely in French. Students are also encouraged to pursue exams in their home language.

Today, it’s the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. Not only is it truly international - it gives students more options than any other international qualification. That means more subjects to choose from, more ways to learn and more ways to succeed

Cambridge International Advanced Level (16-18 Years Old)...

Our International A Levels empower students to excel at a higher level in a select number of subjects, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and qualifications necessary for success at university and beyond.

Typically, students study three or four International A Level subjects of their choice. Additionally, they have the option to pursue an extra A Level qualification in Global Perspectives. For those not opting for this elective, PSGS (Personal, Social & Global Skills) is offered as a non-exam subject. Proficiency in the French language and understanding of its culture are compulsory components for every student and are integrated into French, Sport and PSGS lessons.

In addition to lessons, our courses also incorporate guided self-study activities such as background reading, research, practice questions, written assignments and homework. This approach aims to enhance students' comprehension while promoting essential skills like critical thinking and self-directed learning, which naturally equip students for the demands of higher education and beyond.

We help schools to build a curriculum that brings success for learners. Our syllabuses prepare learners for university study, which is why universities worldwide value and recognise Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications.
