Host Families
We believe in strong community values at BIS and by offering students the possibility to stay with a host family, we feel that our students can benefit from an exceptional 'home away from home' experience.
BIS has homestay options with carefully selected French families living close to the school. It is an ideal arrangement for students whose parents live far away and is the most effective way to gain fluency and absorb French culture. We have a school coordinator, available 24/7, who is responsible for the vetting process including interviews, home inspection and regular reviews. We consult the student's parents and introduce both families before the student moves in. We ensure that the student is happy in their host family and devote great care to their wellbeing.
Being part of a local family gives students an invaluable chance to learn the French language and immerse themselves in a rich cultural exchange.
Homestay students are encouraged to communicate, work collaboratively and gain independence in a comforting family atmosphere. They integrate fully into family life and gain a better understanding of French culture as well as improving their language skills. This relaxed home environment is key to building confidence, encouraging everyday conversations and practising useful vocabulary. Reciprocally, our French host families are keen to learn about the student’s own culture.
Homestay students improve their interpersonal skills, gaining insight into local customs. By sharing daily life and culture and by being included in family celebrations and activities, they are prepared for the adult world as global citizens.
